The Society of Glass Technology (SGT) is starting an online series of 30-minute glass related talks designed to fit into a lunch break.
Following the support for its Christmas lectures, the SGT is now introducing its ‘Lunch & Learn’ series.
The series will feature free, monthly, bite-sized talks covering sustainability, bio glass, heritage, and the latest developments in glass technology.
The sessions will be held on the last Friday of each month from 13:30 to 14:00
Please click here to register.
The first event will take place on March 27th.
The talk, titled ‘Infra-red monitoring of Glass Futures furnace heat-up (ambient air to operating oxy-fuel)’, will be hosted by Neil Simpson.
The session focuses on how infra-red monitoring can support safer, faster heat-up and better visibility of furnace behaviour from ambient through to oxy-fuel operation.
Participants will learn:
- How infra-red thermal imaging is being applied to furnace operation, optimisation and repair.
- What monitoring during heat-up can reveal – from silica crown expansion and joint closure to conversion to oxy-fuel.
- How combining long-wave, mid-wave, and near infra-red instruments can support model validation and operational decision-making.
- Where better visibility of thermal profiles can help manage gradients, reduce stress and protect assets – while supporting efficient cullet/batch fill practices.
