Glass packaging supplier Croxsons has launched its Rightweight solution, which can reduce the weight of glass bottles and jars by up to 30%.

Rightweight works by engineering packaging that has no excess weight or unnecessary material whilst retaining the packaging’s strength, function, and shelf appeal.

By reducing the weight of glass packaging by up to 30%, the solution ensures that bottles and jars are engineered to be as light as possible while still maintaining function.

This in turn increases the recyclability of the packaging, minimises the amount of packaging waste going to landfill, and reduces Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) costs.

Croxsons CEO Tim Croxson said: “Rightweight is more than just lightweighting products; it reflects our approach to bottle and jar design by creating packaging that is engineered to be exactly what it needs to be.”

Croxsons’ has already launched a 330ml Rightweight ‘Mountain’ soft drinks bottle, delivering a 9.5% weight reduction per bottle and offering reductions in EPR fees.

The company’s premium quality ‘Apollo’ 700ml spirits bottle, suitable for gin, rum, tequila, vodka and whisky, has also benefited from the Rightweight technology.

Its weight was reduced from 575g per bottle to 400g.

Croxson said the Rightweight standard would be applied across a range of its products over the coming months.

It continued that the technology is the culmination of over 16 years of development, and aims to help customers meet their ESG goals while still fulfilling brand and consumer expectations.

Mr Croxson added: “Simply removing weight for the sake of it can create new issues, including reduced rigidity, increased breakage, or a poorer overall experience.

“Rightweight avoids that trap by delivering real benefits while maintaining the integrity of the packaging and the product it contains.”
